It was long due but finally my "home server setup" received an UPS. Not to be confused with the delivery company, here we are talking about an Uninterruptible Power Supply ;-)
So my Saturday started like this:
On the list was also a PCI-E extension card that should come into the server but as the events unfold this was postponed for a future "weekend-session". The UPS is a simple one an APC BE850G2 bought on Black Friday from amazon.
The device should cover the following:
This is where it should come:
... and after dusting and arranging this is how it looked:
Could be done better, but this is a topic for the future as now I need to connect the UPS to my home server running OpenMediaVault with the help of the NUT Plugin (NUT - network ups tools).
Configuration of the plugin was a breeze, discovering why OpenMediaVault Email Notifications are not working was another thing.
After troubleshooting for a while I have managed to understand that one of the dockers "stole" port 25. I have this remapped and now everything works OK. Unplugged the UPS and got the notification! Plugged back in and got the notification! Basic scenario covered.
I am nevertheless curious for how long this UPS will hold my Router, AP and Server and maybe in the next days I will organize a test. I am also curious if is there any way to get more information from the UPS and if it is possible to connect it to both my home server and my home assistant instance.
as usually a lot of to dos :-) and this is just the normal UPS Saturday...
